Last night tweetdeck saved my life...

Well it didn't really but this is about as imaginative as I can get right now.

I did install tweetdeck yesterday (yeah, yeah I know I'm slow in using this superb app) and it's definitely changed how I use twitter.

This resulted in coming across some interesting links today that I thought I'd share:

The "Place for Friends" is starting to feel lonely. MySpace, the Rupert Murdoch-owned website once synonymous with social networking, is losing popularity and key staff in its biggest troubles since launching five years ago.

Coincidently, I've heard of heaps of 'Parents/Oldies' now jumping onto facebook. In fact some of my parents friends recently sent me Friend Requests from their new 'cool' facebook profile. (I did accept after a quick skim of my FB pics and recent links).

I'm not saying facebook is only for the young cool kids, of course not. However, will knowing your mum and dad are facebook addicts change their kids perception and acceptance of facebook?

I guess if facebook is perceived as being more of a 'tool', enabling you to connect with others then it's as safe as email or messenger. Myspace left this 'tool' space as soon as it introduced Black Curtain events and more recently started producing its own content

It's a jungle out there! Whyte and Mackay is set to be the first drinks company to use social media, Twitter and Google Latitude for a UK-wide event called 'The Whyte and Mackay Safari Hunt' which will give people the chance to hunt down bottles of quality whisky if they can find the Whyte and Mackay lions in bars and pubs.

Another idea that feels like an old-school radio promo with a digital twist. I blogged gems of wisdom on this very topic back in Dec "What Can We Learn From Radio...".

Via the online instant Messenger service mums can talk to other mums, friends and family. They can also receive real-time advice and tips from a Tresillian nurse!

Seemingly been out since 2007 however never popped up on my radar which is surprising as I must have Googled Tresillian over a hundred times in the last 18 months (normally with a screaming baby and wife in the background).

For those yet to have a little mini-me, Tresillian is an absolute god send when you get home and your precious baby hasn't read the books you have. Unfortunately getting through to a nurse on the phone can take hours and getting in to see a nurse can take weeks.

Lastly, hugely disappointed to only get one submission to my tweet:

Free schooner to the funniest punchline to... "How many social media experts do you need to change a light bulb...."

Maybe a schooner doesn't have the pulling power it used have. I could stretch to a pint and packet of pork scratchings... @rossraeburn
